2009 wrap up
Here’s some hi-lights of the year
Spring 09 / Junior 2nd semester
- started working at the hospital’s integrated care
- got seriously interested in health 2.0 - learned a lot, met some interesting people
- took my first fiction class. realized that I’m ok at writing since I have a ton of weird ideas bouncing in my head all the time. I got interested in the discipline.
- visited Princeton during spring break and saw Jake, one of my best friends from middle school/ high school, for the first time since freshman year of high school
- went to my first gun club practice… and shot my first gun (shotgun werd)
Summer 09 was spent at home
- didn’t get to work as much as I wanted to, but it was fun
- read a few books
- gathered some data for the thesis
- went to glitch mob concert for free at the Roxy… was pretty crazy
- explored LA a little bit
- went to Vegas for the first time in a while
- finally got a home gym going :D picked up some old, rusting equipment, but it’s all good.
- arts & crafts
- made my first ring - DIY.
- legitly sewed for the 2nd time - I am absolutely terrible. converted a tee to a tank top.
Fall 09 / Senior 1st semester has been just crazy. It’s surprising how much has happened and in what little time.
I’ve stayed the same but learned so much about potential and what I want to do. I’ve explored many avenues… We’ll see what happened.
- Turned 21
- although I don’t drink… I’ve been to two bars so far :)
- Don’t know what I’m doing next year yet
- explored a bunch of fields, got a few interviews but wasn’t too successful
- Have some concrete goals rather than abstract values
- both professionally and academically
- Academics
- got interested in different fields of human evolution …
- interested in epidemiology especially as a correlary … looking into those subjects for grad school
- took my first philosophy class (Environ. Ethics) and thinking more and more about applied ethics after speaking with my Cali neighbor, Jesse, who is a bioethics fellow at the NIH late in the summer…
- Started working on research, and it has been incredibly interesting
- econ thesis
- bio anthro literature review article
- Doing some interesting work at the hospital and starting to get momentum for a medical humanities initiative
- Being healthier in general
- Actually cooking and not starving myself all the time
- Seeing some progress in the gym,
- Many friendships weakened inevitably, but in my current environment, I have been able to accept friends for what they are.
- Having a wonderful girlfriend
- Chatted with my first A-lister? lol dunno if that’s a hi-light or not
Content with life even if it’s uncertain. That’s 2009.
2010 should be a good one. I’m ready to graduate, and I am excited to start working and/or studying my interests in the professional world or academia.
Somethings I wish happened and/or want to do next year:
- Reconnecting better with friends
- More family bonding
- Get them on a solid exercise plan…
- Sharing a hobby would be nice.
- Edit my wardrobe
- sell things I don’t use / don’t like much
- cop new cool shiz
- Dance more
- I made a little bit of progress, and I think those conceptual leaps will help me progress easier if I practice consistently
- Gym and diet better / smarter
- again while I was consistently going to the gym despite it being a mad hectic semester, I need to progress more. I have better technique and activation, but my activation could still work a lot
- I need to do more activation and stretching work, ramp up my strength significantly, and lose some fat.
- Martial arts
- I went to Tim Burrill’s BJJ in Providence a few times in the Spring (and previously during school), but it was just too far and never scheduled my time right.
- Judo was fun the summer before last, too bad I broke my collar bone.
- I really want to start a striking art, probably muay thai (kick boxing) or boxing. I don’t think I would be as likely to injure myself as in grappling, and I’ve always been more interested in striking than in grappling. It’s just hard to find a good gym.
- Cook even more (but share with people… the unhealthy bounties)
- Make soda
- Make pizza
- Host more dinner parties
- Attain technical skills and start producing some of my designs and ideas
- sewing, leather working, metal working
- Work more, so I have $$ to play with
- Get a job / figure out what I’m doing after I graduate… I’m assuming this will fall into place haha.
Reasonable goals? Probably, but we’ll see how it goes. Better time management needed!
